Maybe I should edit the title of my blog - peeking in an empty creche. Doesn't it seem we rush too much the celebrations of Christmas, ignoring the important season of waiting, where we are reawakened to pray and hopeful expectation of the second coming of Christ? Advent is a time when, having fallen asleep like the disciples in the garden of Gethsemane, we are roused to keep watch, to wait, to keep alert.
Take time to sit with a manger filled with nascent potential; hold back from putting baby Jesus in the trough. Know what it is like to long for the love of your life. Just as we have run to the tomb, time and time again looking to find a corpse, not expecting a miracle, we so often run to the crib expecting to find the cuteness of an infant. What if, this time, we knelt at the crib to find more than the cuteness of an infant, but Emanuel: God REALLY With Us! Don't rush it, or your might miss it!
